We empower Somali communities by providing essential emergency aid and sustainable development solutions to support agro-pastoralists, riverine communities, and internally displaced persons.
RAHMO Development Organization is a collaborative and participatory non-governmental, non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the development of Somali communities. Established in 1992 to advocate for the protection of human rights, save and improve lives of most vulnerable, poorest and marginalized families affected by poverty and/or crisis, eradicate poverty and empower women and children to reach their full potential. RAHMO focuses on local resource mobilization and the promotion of management capacities within communities.

RAHMO was founded through the collective efforts of community members, intellectuals, and experienced elders. These founders were driven by a shared vision and a combined ideology to address the prolonged and severe problems faced by Somali communities. They recognized the need for an organization that could standardize efforts to provide basic services, such as nutrition, protection, education, access to WASH (Water and Sanitation hygiene) and infrastructure, especially for marginalized and vulnerable populations, including internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, and host communities.
In a collaborative effort supported by funding from the Diaspora, UN agencies, and international non-governmental organizations (INGOs), RAHMO is dedicated to revitalizing and maintaining school infrastructures in communities that need it most.
At RAHMO, our operations are deeply intertwined with the critical issues of food security and livelihoods. Recurrent challenges such as droughts and climate shocks severely disrupt agricultural production, exacerbating food scarcity and increasing livelihood vulnerabilities.
RAHMO’s emergency strategy focuses on improving water access, enhancing sanitation, providing temporary employment, and supporting livelihoods for IDPs and drought-affected communities in Somalia. We are committed to creating a secure and hopeful future for all displaced individuals and families.
Our mission is to provide comprehensive support to those affected by human and natural crises. We deliver emergency relief, implement educational programs, ensure access to clean water and food security, offer healthcare services, protect women and children, and develop sustainable socio-economic initiatives. Additionally, we promote peace-building and effective governance. We are committed to integrating our core values of respect, accountability, neutrality, advocacy, equality, quality, innovation, and solidarity into all aspects of our work.
